Does the Bible condone women submitting to men?

< STRONG Certainly not for unmarried women submitting to all men.

This is a very strong misconception in today's society. Even if the Bible teaches women to submit to their husbands, it rarely teaches about women submitting to men in general (other than what it says in Corinthians 14:34)..

Please examine these verses to how it limits to only wives, not to unmarried women:

Gen 3:16  And he said to the woman, "I will increase your trouble in pregnancy and your pain in giving birth. In spite of this, you will still have desire for your husband, yet you will be subject to him."

Notice, this only applies to wives, NOT to all women.

Eph 5:23  For a husband has authority over his wife just as Christ has authority over the church; and Christ is himself the Savior of the church, his body.
Eph 5:24  And so wives must submit themselves completely to their husbands just as the church submits itself to Christ.

As you can see, it only limits to wives, not to all women. But of course, that doesn't mean husbands can abuse their wives.

< STRONG Not really. Jesus had nothing to do with repressing women. (Biblical)

Women were among the first people to witness the resurrection and evangelize, hence this gives them a great role in evangelism.

< A little.  Paul condoned it for Corinthians, but only for Corinthians.

Does this mean that women should not speak in church services today? It is clear from 11:5 that
women prayed and prophesied in public worship. It is also clear in chapters 12–14 that women are
given spiritual gifts and are encouraged to exercise them in the body of Christ. Women have much
to contribute and can participate in worship services.
In the Corinthian culture, women were not allowed to confront men in public. Apparently some of
the women who had become Christians thought that their Christian freedom gave them the right to
question the men in public worship. This was causing division in the church. In addition, women of
that day did not receive formal religious education as did the men. Women may have been raising
questions in the worship services that could have been answered at home without disrupting the
services. Paul was asking the women not to flaunt their Christian freedom during worship. The
purpose of Paul’s words was to promote unity, not to teach about women’s roles in the church.

 >> Yes, by what God said in Genesis.

God cursed men to work the ground, and women to submit to their husbands.

< Regardless, it's only for wives.

Please see this argument for details "Certainly not for unmarried women submitting to all men. "

< STRONG But that was before Christ. That's only for the Jews, not for the Christians.

Now that sins are forgiven by Christ, women don't have to have such submissive roles.

>> But a lot of churches require that women submit under the headship of man.

Why do they continue to follow it?

< Because Paul talked about it to the Corinthian church.

That was to the Corinthian church.

>> STRONG But man and woman still have to deal with the cursed ground.

It's as if they never were forgiven by Christ for the original sin. What's up with that?
