< STRONG By obeying Jesus' commandments. (Biblical)

John 14:15  If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

John 14:21  Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.

John 15:10  If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.

1 John 2:5  But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him.

If we don't keep His commands, then we do not really love Him.

< STRONG By putting Jesus first. (Biblical)

Matt 23:37-40  You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'

Matt 10:37-39  He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

These verses show that we need to put God first in our lives- over ourselves, our loved ones, everything. If we prefer the world or anything in the world over Him, then we are not worthy of Him. If we love Him, He must be priority.

< STRONG By loving our brethren. (Biblical)

John 13:34,35  A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have love one for another.

1 John 4:20-21  If someone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

1 John 3:10  Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.

1 John 3:17  If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?

There is a relationship between loving God and loving others. If we do not love others, how can the love of God be in us?

< OK By telling others about Him.

If you love someone, you want others to know about him or her...He who truly loves his wife, will want others to know about her. He wears a ring and puts her upon a pedestal. Such is also true if we love God and Jesus. We will want to let others know that they are a part of our life. In Acts 8:4, we read of persecuted brethren who, "were scattered abroad (and) went everywhere preaching the word." Their love for Christ compelled them to tell others about Him. The apostle Paul spoke of His love for Christ compelling him in 2 Corinthians 5:14. A study of the context of that passage shows that he and those with him were interested in persuading men to believe in Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:10-11)...We need to develop a bad case of the I-can’t-help-its when it comes to telling others about the Godhead. Even after being threatened and commanded not to speak any more in the name of Jesus, [the apostles Peter and John] told the Jewish leaders, “we cannot but speak the things we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:17-20). They surely remember the words of Jesus when He said, "Therefore, whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 10:32-33). They also loved the Lord enough to say, “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). Do you love God and Jesus enough to tell others?
