So does God want us to kill?
>> WEAK Yes. For God also killed people, and Jesus said to be like our Father in Matthew 5:48.
God killed people by flooding the earth. And He killed here:
I Samuel 6:19 "And the people lamented because the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter."
And Jesus said in Matt 5:48, "You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
So we should be just like our Father in killing evil people.
< STRONG But Jesus said to be PERFECT like our Father, NOT to do everything He does.
He didn't say to do every thing our Father does. There are certain things our Father can do, but we can't. For example, God sent His only begotten Son to save the whole earth. We CAN'T DO THAT. First, it's been done already, and second, God had a perfect son who was the one to be the perfect sacrifice... none of us are perfect to do what God did.
Also, Jesus said don't judge, and you won't be judged. But God is going to judge anyhow... is that contradicting? No, because Jesus never said to do everything God does.
However, as Christians, we are supposed to do what Jesus did.
>> But Jesus is God.
If Jesus is God, then we do what God does. So you still have a problem.
< STRONG We are supposed to emulate Jesus as he was on earth.
Christians are supposed to do what Jesus did on earth and the example he set for us, NOT what he did as part of the Trinity in heaven.
< STRONG God doesn't want us to *murder* in the 10 Commandments. He did NOT command us to not kill. (Biblical)
The 10 Commandments were against murder of fellow neighbors for the Jews. There are no other interpretations for killing someone in the 10 Commandments.
Ex 21:12 "Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall be put to death."
Notice here that the man strikes deliberately "so that he dies."
And…
Ex 22:2 "If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him."
And here, a man isn't prohibited from killing a robber. Notice that this verse is close to the other verse.
< STRONG Whatever God says, it is law, whether it changed or not. (Biblical)
Since God is constant, He has reasons when giving different commands. For example, consider Peter’s dream:
Acts 10:15 "And the voice came to him again a second time, 'What God has made clean, do not call common.'"
Consider also the Moral Shift here: Can moral laws change according to the Bible?
