< STRONG Sin goes agaisnt God's nature.
God hates sin because it is contrary to his perfect and holy nature. It is impossible for God to do anything wrong. He cannot lie. He cannot cheat us. He cannot misrepresent the truth...Sin causes separation between ourselves and God (Isaiah 59:2). Such separation has a horrible consequence: damnation. Therefore God would hate anything that separates us from His perfect love and perfect standard of holiness.

< What is sin?
< STRONG Sin means to miss the mark.
The definition of sin is to "miss the mark." The mark would be God and His ways. Missing the mark would therefore be doing something that goes against what God wants. We know God's will through His commands and word. I.e. Blasphemy, adultery, lying, cheating, etc.
< Why can't God just overlook sin even though it goes against his nature?
< STRONG Because God is just and will not condone sin- it must be punished.
God must punish the sinner. If he did not, God would be approving of that which is contrary to to his Holiness. God must deal with sin and, unfortunately for unbelievers, they will face the consequences of their sin if they do not trust in the person of Jesus Christ who removes the wrath of God from all who would believe and trust in him.

< STRONG Why should we expect God to overlook sin when we typically don't?
We demand punishment for offenses against us. We have legislated that sins committed against anyone are crimes, and the offenders deserve punishment. We will not tolerate theft or destruction of property, personal injury or death, infidelity in marriage, or defamatory remarks.
If we overlooked these, we’d be saying that sins are of no consequence, and they have not affected anything or anyone. If we can’t ignore sin, how can God do it? He doesn’t! He has declared from the beginning that sin has serious consequences.
