Description

This group discusses and elects 3 Christian songs that would be played constantly in the secular public but with emphasis on one. Every part of the songs must be good. By playing them a lot in public, we want to make it a hit among secular radios, DJs, and listeners. With predominately secular people listening to this Christian song, they may see its great merit, get inspired and look into Christianity, and become attracted to the Christian faith. Or at least they may know there's better stuff out there than what secular radio has to offer.

What Happens Afterwards?

After about 6 mouths or so, we'll do the same thing to another 3 good songs. We'll be like Power 96 or MTV, but not centered in one place, but amongst the crowds.

Basic Steps to Follow

1) Important (read this if you're not good with computers): As you follow these steps, you'll have to click on links and it'll take you to a detailed section of this page. After you finish reading the section, click "back" on the broswer to see these steps again.

2) Look through the already posted songs and see their comments. Go here.

3) If you have a song that satisfies these requirements, then upload it for others to see and comment on. This effectively is a nomination.

4) After you have posted the song, you can make additional comments on the song, especially concise comments using this format.

5) After a while, there may be available on this page songs you can download to share with friends, burn it on CDs, post it online on your mySpace, give it to the DJs to play it, etc. Go here to download.

6) Next, go to the Discussion Board on the Facebook Site, and contribute to discussion issues concerning the project.

7) After you're confident in your songs selection, VOTE! This will be on the Discussion Board. You can always take back your votes before the official voting deadline.

7) Finally, the sweet part: once we got 3 songs, we'll play these songs all over the place, while emphasizing one song. You can mix in other songs with these sogns if you could. If you could only play one song, play the emphasized song.
Keep in mind this is supposed to fit your schedule; whenever you're at an event or a party and you have the ability to tell the DJ to play any song you want, do it, like I have. Some are ok with it, while others may give a little resistance. And after a while of this, we'll let you know when we're ready to pick another 3 songs.
If you're at a party and we haven't picked the songs yet, please, try to play any Christian song you see fit. Don't wait till we're finished voting.

Remember, this is an open project, any suggestions for improvements are welcome.

Requirements for Potential Songs

It should have:

1) Really good beat --- most basic requirement
2) Catchy chorus --- to easily identify the song
3) With impactful message--- better if it introduces the need for Christ
4) Good secular penetration--- geared towards a secular audience, where it  is not so obvious that it is Christian, but with a little study, it is most certainly is. Also called underground Christian lyrics.
5) Rap or hip hop genre--- these songs are mostly played in secular contexts.

Post up songs you really like even if it doesn't seem to satisfy the requirements. It might seem so later on.

Some of us are going to be explicitly commenting on songs based on these requirements.

How to View Potential Songs

On the Facebook Site, scroll down to the "Posted Items" section. Click "See All".
There, you will see most songs posted. Scroll down more to see page “1”, “2”, “3”, etc and click on it.  

Click on one posted item; if the page doesn't load right or the song isn't present, simply take the title of the song and search the song through these portals:

How to Upload Songs

On the Facebook Site, scroll down to the "Posted Items" and under "Post a Link", you can post a link to a song file or webpage.
If you know the URL of the online song file or webpage, then copy and paste it into it.

If you don't know where to find the song online (in which you just have it on your computer), you can do two things:

1) Simply look for the song on YouTube or mySpace and get the URL from there. The URL is simply the address of each webpage, that starts off as www.this.com. Just copy and paste it to the post field, or

2) Send the song to me by email and I'll upload it

Format of Posting Concise Comments

For every song posted, some people including myself will be posting comments in the following format. If you post a song, please use this format, but you don’t have to.
1) beat: <comments>
2) catchiness: <comments>
3) impactful message: <comments>
4) secular penetration: <comments>
5) genre: <comments>

Has it been done before?

Examples:

• It has been with Tupac's songs. His songs had Christian messages and a while back couple of secular radio stations playing them.

• Based on a true story, a movie portrayed how a father did the exact thing as this group will do, who made his two young boys into famous singers. He did it by calling the radio station and telling them to play his boys’ one song. Name of movie: 2 Filhos de Francisco (must see it under English subtitles).

• With Kayne West's song, "Jesus Walks". It became a hit and a repeated song on secular radio. Kayne West is mostly a secular artist, and that probably helped. But we as a group can help make a song a hit simply by spreading it around.

Reason for this project

There is too much secular and popular hip-hop songs with good beats but nasty and senseless lyrics. I mean, come on, some of them describe sex, like that's what's the world is about!
So, we need to instill Christian presence with a “lightning strike” (our logo) in secular radio and public.

Number of Potential Songs

Keep in mind that if we play more than 3  Christian songs, the mass public may not be as receptive as much as if they only heard  3, with one emphasized repeated a lot,. What makes a song a hit is that it is played over and over and over, so anyone will come across the song many times, in addition to the quality of the song.   

Switch from 1 Song to 3 Songs

I think we should have 3 potential songs with emphasis on 1, instead of just 1 song.
Look at the discussion board for reason why, and please comment.

How can we make it a hit?

We can:

• Blast it out (at acceptable levels) whenever you can
• Playing it in your laptop in a public area,
• Get a DJ to play it in public events,
• Ask a radio station to play the song,
• Put it on myspace,
• Talk about it to your friends,
• Or do whatever to get it known

Playing Songs While Driving

I don't recommend playing loud music while driving:
1) The music played is not easily heard, but if it's heard, then it's not effective enough to get people's attention.
2) Having it really loud increases risk of accident and police awareness.

Personal Experience

I personally got a DJ to play "Jesus Walks" in a town event. I simply approached him and asked him to play the first song on the CD, and he played it.
I tried to get a DJ to play "No Ordinary Love" but he won't because he said he didn't have it. However, he did have "Jesus Walks" and played it without any problems.
Some DJs will play your CDs and some won't.

Other Information

Everything in Recent News periodically gets emptied and incorporated into the Constitution (this document).

To keep the “Posted Items” clean, I will delete any discussion that does not contribute towards the project. However, I will not touch the discussion board.
